Planning your skincare routine when you have more than you can handle

Life happens and sometimes it’s work to work on yourself, however what if I told you that you could do only 2 things and as long as you stay with it you are golden!

So, I have mentioned before if you have met me in person at the spa that there is NO MAGIC potion! Yup, what works best for you is completely individually based on….you. So while Regina may love this brand it just doesn’t seem to work really well for Patty. I will tell you this, there is a huge emphasis on Quality! So personally, I believe what will work best for all skin types for maintenance purposes is CLEAN AND ORGANIC quality products. I am very and extremely biased and have found Eminence and YonKa to be my favorite skincare brands and it was mainly due to the fact that its what we use at the Away Spa in W Austin, and well they definitely love to share the goods whenever Daisy from Eminence comes in as well as Tracy with Yonka. I will say this, there are some products that I am not in love with from both brands. Which is totally ok honestly, I have also met some clients that do not like Eminence, AT ALL, not even one product, (the shock and disbelief, oh my!) and that’s ok too. Skincare potions are not a once size fits all. I use to say its trial and error however met someone that said it’s a quest so let’s go with that. It is a quest folks to find that line that suits your needs best and once you found it please explore it, once you run out and the seasons have changed, mix it up accordingly.

HMM, Davina, what does that look like? 🙋‍♀️

Well, if its summer and you are using a gel cleanser at that moment and as you are on the tail end of it knowing you gotta restock and are bringing out your cozy cardigans because PSL season is upon us, then maybe we might wanna switch it up to an oil or cream based cleanser. Make sense? Basically, take a cue from how you’re dressing according to the weather changes, seasonal changes, and where you may be traveling. The way I like to think of it is that we are dressing accordingly (and packing accordingly don’t forget traveling hunny) as the seasons change and even our moods, hence the lazy girl or guy routine. So, why are we not thinking of your skin as a whole? We are covering up or showing off more skin as the seasons change yet we do the same exact skincare routine year round and wonder why it “stopped working”? Once you kinda switch it up with that new mindset it will set a lil light bulb and ding! “By George I think she’s got it” ( My Fair Lady reference for those of y’all nostalgic peeps) You will know that as the weather changes and you are showing more skin maybe something lighter and airy is best especially here in Austin, Texas 🤠 And as the weather gets more dry and we start covering our lovely skin we may consider adding something along the lines of rich and velvety as well as oily. Plus, rainy season can be hot or cold as well so treat it as such. I mean you definitely do not want to feel hot and sticky AND wet so think refreshing and maybe matte like a gel moisturizer vs a thicker version.

Hey, don’t forget about all the in between from the neck to the toes during all seasons. Honestly, what’s the point of practicing selfcare and self love when all we are focusing on is our face! Believe me I know all to well how overwhelming it can be to consider all this as a whole thing and it is because skincare/self care IS A THING. Breathe it in and breathe it out and accept that, we are creating habits and while it may suck in the beginning just think of the time that even brushing your teeth was a drag UNTIL you realized it makes a whole world of a difference to have clean teeth plus taking care of your teeth so Dan the Dentist doesn’t have to be ALL up in your grill grilling you about how you need to do this or that while all you can do is layback and try to relax knowing this is gonna hurt!

Now, lets talk about S T E P S

If I had to give you a set number to BEGIN with that would 2. Spiritual meaning of Number 2 is usually associated to harmony, balance, consideration and love. Just in case you are into that and well to START HERE. Cleansing and Hydrating. That is your foundation ladies and gents! The most important thing you can do in the realm of taking care of your skin is cleansing it and hydrating it. I mean we shower everyday, some of us 2x a day yet we can not seem to make a lil effort to wash our face at night 😱

POR WHY? Because IT is all based on habits nothing more and nothing less.

Look, I am completely and fully aware of fellow esthies, dermatologists, nurse injectors, and social media influencers that say THEY HAVE a 10 step or 13 step routine, I personally have anywhere between 5-11 steps on certain days however see how the numbers already fluctuate? Honestly, reality check, you BUILD your way on to that. It is not very beneficial focusing putting a serum on or adding an eye cream, incorporating a retinol if you are not consistently and efficiently cleansing your face or barely remembering to moisturize and hydrate let alone remembering to actually use those new products! Consistency is the key 🔑

Mastered that?! Well, alright! Now, we can start building and refining our skincare routine since maybe you may have or not picked up on, WILL CHANGE! Yes, your skincare routine will change as follows:

1.) seasonally

2.) As we age 🥲

Take those deep breathes and accept….

Done, great, so cleanse PM diligently! AM focus on rinsing and if you are feeling a lil oiler than you would like or drier choose the cleanser accordingly. (Gel/Foam = oily & Cream or Oil = drier)

The main focus during the AM should be protect not cleansing, GURL, or Guy, you did that last night, right?! So, truly you just gotta rinse. And for that, COLD water baby is your bestie! Not only will it refresh and awaken your senses, it will also close those pores for the battlefield aka the world outside and even inside your home. If you know me then you’ve heard closed pores closed doors.
